Bored by your job hunt? Treat it like Glastonbury!

OK so I understand that applying for a graduate job is hardly going to be as fun as Glastonbury -unless of course we have an absolute wash out with the weather this year – but the fact is at the end of it you will hopefully secure a fantastic job (as opposed to a week long hangover and a pair of muddy wellies)! So if you’re Bored by your job hunt? Treat it like Glastonbury! Here’s how the 2 are (tenuously I’ll admit) similar:

  • Looking for jobs and submitting CV’s is a lot like trying to get Glastonbury tickets! You have to be quick to apply and spend a lot of time on the internet sites in order to get your place. Luckily for you grads you can take the pain out of this process by using a Recruitment consultant! If your looking for a graduate role in the IT sector then check out Searchability’s latest roles!
  • Selecting what company’s / locations you want to work in is a lot like selecting where to pitch your tent for the week! You need to make sure you choose a company that is going to pay well, be close enough that you don’t have a painful commute every day and be with people you get along with! So pitch your tent somewhere where it’s not likely to get flooded / be too far away from the action and if you can pitch up right next to your mates!
  • Prepping and researching for an interview takes a lot of planning and time. You want to remember as much information as possible and ensure you are fully prepped on the key areas of your business for your chosen job role. Now that’s kind of the same as packing for Glastonbury! You need to make sure you have all the essentials with you as once you’re in there you’re stuck!
  • Now if you’ve made it to the interview  you need to do all you can to prove to the interviewer you’re the right grad for the job. You have to get to the front of the Pyramid stage and lock eyes with the headline act!

So… some of those were very loose “similarities”, but hopefully it perked you up for a few minutes and gave you a break from your job hunt! You may find the following blogs helpful for your search: How to Stand Out from the Crowd in the Job Hunt / Best Tips to write your Graduate CV.
