Quick – You’re Running Out Of Time To Apply!!

With the majority of 2017 graduates currently focusing on January assessments, it’s likely that many of you will have forgotten that several graduate scheme applications close at the end of January – or even worse, have already closed! But don’t panic – we’ve come up with a guide to help maximise your applications in a short period of time!

Ensure that you have researched the schemes / careers you are interested in and rank them in order of preference. Once you have done this, it’s important that you cross reference them against the application closing dates to ensure that you don’t miss out on potentially interesting opportunities.

Dedicate Time:

Even if you have left it to the last minute to apply, spend time on the application itself. If it is an online form there is likely to be sections asking you to demonstrate your ability to do the role. Recruiters can really tell the difference between a rushed answer and one that has been considered carefully. A line is rarely enough content, pad out your answer with examples of the times you have completed a task or have used a certain skill set.

Proof read:

There is nothing worse than reading a load of CV’s with grammatical errors or spelling mistakes. You may get away with one or two here and there but make sure that you get someone else to proof read your application. A fresh set of eyes can pick up obvious errors that you miss after staring at a document for a long period of time.

Be Cheeky:

If your dream graduate scheme has already closed, be a little cheeky and source the email address for the recruiting staff member and ask them if they will accept late applications. This is a slightly left field approach, but you may catch a staff member on a good day and lead into an opportunity that was otherwise closed off.

When you are struggling for time it is difficult to make your application stand out. Using services such as recruitment agencies can really help you to find a role that you’ll love long term. For more information on how Searchability could help you find your dream graduate job, visit our website.
